Screening Limitations

A screening cannot be used to generate a diagnosis, nor does it provide the detail necessary to identify the specific cause of problems. Specific interventions for skill development cannot be generated from screening alone.

If the results of screening suggest that further assessment may be necessary, you may choose to take the results to your local elementary school and ask that the results be considered by a screening committee. If warranted, the school may provide additional screening/testing at no charge to you.

IMPORTANT NOTE

If you believe that your child has a significant delay, you may first wish to contact your local elementary school (for children 5 and older) or Childfind (for children 20 months to under 5) to ask about a developmental screening. If the school system deems it warranted, they may provide a screening and/or assessment at no charge.
